Dear Parents,

The month of June will be full of fun and activities as we finish off the school year.

This term classes are working on different units of learning. Please check your child’s June calendar in their folders this Thursday 27 May or on the internet for details.

To conclude the school year we cover a unit on thankfulness.  A quality that is important to nurture in the early years especially in such a materialistic world. There are so many things to be thankful for - a great school year, a wonderful family, new brothers and sisters for some of the children, good health especially in light of the outbreak of swine flu in some places. Perhaps as a family you can spend some time thinking about specific things you are thankful for at this time.

Our final unit is: “We are to be thankful, just as Jesus was thankful”.  The memory verse is:-

“No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you!”
1 Thessalonians 5:18

SCHOOL NOTICES

Parent & Teacher Conferences
It’s almost Parent-Teacher interview time and just like past years a single 10-minute personal interview (with both teachers present) is available for parents between 8:35 am and 4:20 pm on their class interview date.

This year to streamline your parent-teacher interview we are trialling an on-line booking system which is hosted by   (PTO).

See below for the date which has been set for your class:- 
A1 on Monday June 7 in the multipurpose room downstairs.  Class as usual.
A2 on Wednesday June 9 in the multipurpose room downstairs.  Class as usual.
A3 on Thursday June 10  in the multipurpose room downstairs.  Class as usual.
K1, K2, K3, D1, D2, D3 on Friday June 11 in their usual classrooms.  No class.
UA3 on Friday June 11 in the room at the end of the hall upstairs.  No class.
UA1 on Monday June 14 in the room at the end of the hall upstairs.  Class as usual.

At the interview, parents will be given a portfolio of their child’s work. For returning students, please return your child’s portfolio the following week so that we can continue this document in the next school year.  Thank you.

On 11 June please note that there is no school for all children.

Graduation Day
Sadly, we have to say good-bye to some of our children who are leaving Hong Kong or going to primary school. Below is the June graduation schedule for each class, please mark
it down if your child is leaving and come and have a special time with him/her. Please remember we will start on time as some parents take a short time off work to be with their child and need to get back to the office.

K1 – Tuesday 15th 9:30am      K2 – Tuesday 15th 11:30am      K3 – Thursday 17th 11:00am
D1 – Thursday 17th 11:30am   D2 – Friday 18th 11:15am         D3 – Friday 18th 10:45am

Cubby
Please empty your child’s cubby before Wednesday 23 June. 

Lost and Found
Please check the Lost and Found basket on the Ground Floor before the end of the term.  We will dispose of the items by Friday 25 June.

Stuck on You
A big thank you to all families who purchased Stuck on You products www.stuckonyou.biz/hksmallworld.  We receive a commission to help with some educational supplies for the school. When school resumes updated information will be available for you with some new products you can use at school and home as well as participate in some fundraising for the school. 

Bus children
Please let the teachers know if there is a change in bus arrangements for your child by
attaching a note to your child’s uniform or by calling the office by 11:00 a.m.  Please ensure you speak to the staff instead of leaving a message on the phone.

Last Day for the School Year
Thursday 24 June will be the last day of school before the summer holiday. School will end at the regular time.

Orientation Days for New School Year
The orientation days for the coming September term are Thursday 26 and Friday 27 August. The first full day of school is Monday 30 August.  Notification of your specific date for orientation day will be sent through the Summer Schoolgramme at the end of June / early July.

Parent Satisfaction Survey
Your feedback has always been important to us. To help this process we are pleased to announce that each family will soon receive a personalised e-mail invitation to complete our first parents’ on-line survey.  This is an important tool that will allow us to hear directly from you, to know how we are doing and where we could do better.  We hope that every family is able to participate and encourage you to take the survey together with your husband or wife.

Thank you for all your wonderful support during the year. Reflecting on the year I am so grateful for the ways parents, grandparents and helpers have all been involved. From field trips, cooking, sharing your cultures, special days, dad’s dates, Christmas Plays to Chinese New Year to name just few. Thank you to the mothers who attended the Parenting Courses as well as encouraging your helpers to attend their course too. We are all learning together!

On behalf of the school staff we extend our warm wishes and blessings to all the children and families who are leaving Small World and we look forward to seeing all the returning students next school year. In January we will celebrate our 25th Anniversary.  We would love to keep in touch and share with you more details shortly.  Please keep in touch with us and let us know if you have a change of address so we can update our records.
